County Says Edgewood Fire Could Have Been Far More Disastrous
A car fire ignited near Interstate 280’s Farm Hill Boulevard on August 30, sparking vegetation fires that spread across both directions of the freeway in Woodside. Thanks to a rapid, multi-agency response, including from Cal Fire, CHP, and air support, the blaze was contained by evening, burning ten acres with minimal damage.
Officials noted how quickly it could have worsened, especially given wind conditions and proximity to Cañada College and nearby homes. The incident served as a sobering reminder of fire risk and the importance of readiness. Minor evacuations were ordered as a precaution, but no significant property loss occurred. Read more here.

This recognition reflects both strong academic offerings and inclusive community support. Students and staff alike are celebrating the college’s hard-earned recognition. It’s great recognition for Foothill College and the wider Silicon Valley educational community. Read more here.
Tower Construction: Redwood City Senior Housing
Developer R&M Properties has proposed a 21-story, 222-unit senior housing tower at 910 Marshall Street in Redwood City, down from an earlier 28-story plan. This new design includes amenities like an indoor pool, theater, golf simulator, and is intended to be licensed as a residential care facility for older adults.
Located near Kaiser Medical Center, it addresses rising demand for senior living, though it does not include affordable housing. The proposal received some support from council members this week, citing the need for increased availability for senior housing in the area. Some concern remained even with the scaled-back height of the proposed development. Read more here.

The Little Store Returns in Woodside

A beloved Woodside landmark, The Little Store, established in 1902 and formerly used as a general store, gas station, and restaurant, has been revived after years of vacancy and even serving as a bread company’s test kitchen. Under new ownership, the space has been beautifully transformed into a café and flower shop that speaks to the heart of the community.
The talented Chef Sierra Hazel, with roots in acclaimed kitchens such as Birdsong and Charter Oak, is at the helm of the menu. Expect creative and seasonal dishes like avocado-feta toast, house-made yogurt parfaits, breakfast burritos with tater tots and salsa macha, and pastries from Manresa Bread alongside Hazel’s own homemade cakes. The café radiates rustic charm blended with modern comfort, painted pastel blues, cozy mismatched pillows, equestrian-themed accents, and outdoor seating under a wisteria-draped trellis, perfect for lingering over seasonal drinks like lavender matcha lattes. Currently open for breakfast and lunch (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.), The Little Store also has plans for evening pop-ups and aperitivo hours, bringing even more warmth and vibrancy to Woodside.
