⛺️ Redwood City Adopts Anti-Camping Law After Emotional Debate
Redwood City's council has just approved an ordinance that bans camping on public property, a move the city hopes will help guide people experiencing homelessness toward shelter and services. The vote followed a heartfelt and heated discussion, with some council members and residents raising concerns about criminalizing vulnerable individuals.
City officials emphasized that outreach teams and shelter options will be part of cleanup efforts, along with a plan to store personal belongings for 90 days. The decision reflects the city's effort to balance public safety with compassion for its most at-risk residents. To read more about the decision and implementation, click here.
🚗 RideCare Program Offers Adults 50+ Transportation Reimbursement
The RideCare Program in Los Altos is making it easier for adults over 50 in Los Altos and Los Altos Hills to get around town. The program offers financial support for adults 50+ who use taxis, ride-shares, or pay friends and neighbors for local trips. Although started several years ago, officials state the program is still under-utilized.
Participants can be reimbursed up to $200 each month for eligible rides starting or ending within Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, or to various medical facilities in the area. Funded by the Valley Transportation Authority and managed by the city’s Senior Program, RideCare aims to help older adults maintain independence and stay connected to their community.
