Meta Halts Its Big Mixed-Use Project in Menlo Park
After years of planning and approvals, Meta has scrapped its massive Willow Village mixed-use development in Menlo Park, a project that would have added housing, offices, retail, and a hotel adjacent to its headquarters. Rising construction costs and broader economic uncertainty, including cuts and hiring slowdowns in the tech sector, were key factors in putting the project on hold. The setback is significant because Willow Village was expected to bring hundreds of homes and community space right next to Bayfront Expressway and Willow Road. Neighbors hoping for more housing and amenities in that part of Menlo Park will now need to wait or watch for scaled-down plans. Read more here.
Local Honey Hustle: Dave’s Backyard Bees
A Palo Alto resident’s pandemic hobby has blossomed into a thriving local business called Dave’s Backyard Bees, producing raw honey from hives placed around the Peninsula, including Palo Alto, Woodside, and beyond. What started as a fun way to engage his kids has turned into about 200 hives, with the honey sold at farmers markets and markets like The Willows. New Downtown Mural Brings Art to Los Altos
Arts Los Altos has announced a colorful new mural in downtown Los Altos, located near 140 Third St. This piece draws inspiration from the birds of the Baylands Nature Preserve and Shoreline Park, adding to a growing outdoor art scene in the city’s walkable core and gives residents and visitors a vibrant backdrop for everyday strolls. Sushi Kinsen in Redwood City

Sushi Kinsen offers an elevated omakase sushi experience on Broadway in Redwood City that blends traditional Edomae techniques with a modern, Ginza-inspired sensibility. The chef-curated menu, priced per guest, features seasonal progression of appetizers, delicately prepared nigiri, and a thoughtful dessert, with seafood sourced from Tokyo’s Toyosu Market. Dishes may include premium selections like bluefin toro and kohada, and the experience highlights purity of ingredient and precise technique. Seating is intimate and by reservation only, with dinner service several nights a week. While primarily focused on sushi, the setting and multi-course format make it a distinct option for special evenings out.
